Bucket full of new lessons

So, I asked a while back if you could 'reprogram your mind'. I got a whole lot of responses, and it's pretty amazing all the stuff I've learned since then from all of you. I've already told you most of the stuff I've learned from this whole experience (enjoy today, dont worry so much about the future-never know how long you have; it's okay to ask for help from those you love- they are here for you; there's a bigger picture that this thing has to be a part of; emotions are ok; etc, etc), but what I'm now realizing is that I'm also learning tons from all of you. I've recieved so many diff types of books on healing, diets, meditaions, survivor stories, cancer information/healing, visualizations, etc and am actively going thru them all (there's a lot of 'em, so will take a while to read them ALL). 2 months ago, some of the stuff I'd have not tried- maybe too out there for me. Well, I've also learned from this that taking off your "blinders" and trying things you wouldn't normally is what life is all about. So, I'm trying it all, and thank you all for sharing your personal beliefs, thoughts, prayers, and techniques for balance, health and spirituality with me, NO MATTER HOW UNORTHODOX they are. Really, it all is about your personal choice, which I respect so much, and I feel very lucky you could all feel close enough to me to share. So, thank you- I used some new techniques of visualization to stay calm and focused while I was laying in the PET scan tube for 30 mintues yesterday. i'm not a huge fan of close quarters, so this helped me stay calm, and to visualize my healthy happy future. I hope to hear the results of that test sometime this week. Will keep you all posted. Once again, thanks for sharing with me- I really appreciate it.

As you search for new ideas, don't forget to enjoy the immediate, the obvious, the everyday. While visiting I noticed the Sage growning outside your front door; I rubbed the leaves and smelled the aroma, it was wonderful. Seeing the Aspens with their golden hue and the fresh snow was breathtaking...only God could come up with that color. You could look the world over and never find two better companions than Kaya and Butterbean. Could anyone ever have a better friend than Will? The love and warmth in your apartment is powerful. Learn to enjoy the moment, the obvious, the simple, Ando/Mere.

Funny how drugs both help you sleep and keep you awake.

It's 3:30am and one day out of the hospital. At home and swollen but happy that there is no more thyroid to take out. I don't expect I'll have to go through this again anytime soon. (Just like last time, except this time it's true)

Thanks for the well wishes and prayers Dutlingers and friends.

My phone call with Mere before I left for surgery was awesome! I kept singing that song the whole way to the hospital.

Andy,
I think I have always had a little more of the healing gene and a little less of the UGA Football gene then you. The weird and unusual doesn't seem so weird and unusual to me, perhaps because I am a little weird and unusual but that's another conversation entirely.

I was also given a wealth of materials on how to make positive change in both my health and my life. I must have listened to one meditation tape 10 times during my recovery yesterday. Falling asleep during different portions but each time distracting me from the tubes, machines, and pain.

Enjoy the avenue of healing exploration your friends and loved ones have opened up to you. Find what works and use it. Over and over again if you have to.

But like your Daddy said, the power of the moment can be your greatest healing strength of all.

I enjoyed reading his take on all the things I love and miss about Colorado. In fact, I just sent a Thank You card to Will's Mama saying the very same thing about him being one of my greatest friends.

So live it up Andrew Dutlinger!
Day in day out. Just Breathe it all in. It's the little things that we forget to pay attention to, that can make your life so big.

Embrace the day. Embrace your wife. Embrace your life.

Love you guys!

Thinking about you this morning...Kristina too! Every time I sit down to read the blog it's amazing to feel all the love and support your friends and family have for you. You know it's funny, even after studying cognitive psychology and neuroscience in college, I never once doubted that a conscious and focused mind couldn't control the interworkings of the physical body. There is energy all around us. Keep an open heart, focus on the positive and pay attention to all the little signs that will let you know your headed in the right direction.
Super excited to be sporting my Andy Dut bracket...with braids a swingin :) Love u guys.
