Saw this great documentary on TLC called 'Crazy Sexy Cancer'. This girl in the pic, Kris Carr, finds out she has a rare form of cancer that has 24 slow growing tumors. The whole documentary is about her dealing with having incurable cancer, her trip thru the emotions, her meetings with other young cancer ladies, and her changes to her life as she deals with healing. She really changes her diet a ton, and it actually seems to help her get control of the tumors. Along the way her cameraman becomes her boyfriend, and eventually her husband. The girl is really fun and makes for great host, and it ends up sorta feel good by the end.For Mere and I, it was a really fitting thing to watch (thanks for the rec, Kristina and Rob Woodworth), and we've had it on our DVR a since the series and finally got around to watching it. I could sympathize and understand so much she had to say, and it's nice for me to have folks to relate to. A good watch if you ever see it on TLC again.
Speaking of which, got to speak with my cousin Townzen last night, and he seems to be doing well, and is 2 sessions into chemo. Sounds as if he's positive and upbeat, and it's great to talk with him and share our experiences. So strange we're going thru this at the same time, and kinda nice he's a few weeks ahead of me so I can call and ask him questions. Gooooo Townz!

I saw that too and was going to get a recording of it to send to you guys. She is awesome and gives a lot of great info about some alternative treatments. Some of them are pretty intense too, like taking wheat grass treatments. Anyway, glad you two caught it because her personality really makes it not your typical cancer documentary.
What kinds of things do you think I can do to help prevent the chance of cancer? I mean, is there anything that everyone agrees upon? (Other than smoking and drankin')
I'd like to think that I could start living better.

numero uno seems to be diet, really. less meats (hard to do), lots more unrefined stuff, less diary, lots of whole and unrefined grains, beans/legumes, TONS of fresh fruits and veggies.
it's boring (to me) but apparently the best thing you can do. So much research supports it. We're gonna give it a go. Never will I give up my occasional yummy meat unit, but going much healthier will benefit us and everyone in many ways.
Of course less smoking and drinking helps, nick, but also have to balance. seems everything in moderation is the key. You only live once, so finding the happy medium seems to be the key.
Had a great time with the two of you last night. What a sport you are to go out after yet another surgery. I am super interested in that documentary too. lots of love...megan
I have been doing a lot of the same research as Andy. To add on to his suggestion of change of diet, I am sure you have heard it before and said you couldn't afford it then but buy ORGANIC!
I am becoming a firm believer that it is worth the money. Smokin and drinkin are obvious poisons, but there are so many poisons we ingest on a daily basis that aren't so obvious. Pesticides, Growth Hormones, Antibiotics, Preservatives are all just nasty and our food supply is ladled in them.
Start looking at the ingredient lists on the things you eat. Rule of thumb should be if you can't pronounce it, you probably shouldn't put it in your mouth.
You don't have to stop eating meat, but again try to find free range, organic, antibiotic free stuff.
So much of what I am going through right now is teaching me my Body, Mind, and Soul are not separate entities. Kris Carr's journey with INCURABLE cancer is completely inspiring. "No more stinkin thinkin" Eat your veggies!
heres a thought... because you and Mere are SUCH great writers, and this blog is packed with cancer experiences already, and the link w/ the Townz...
and, a journal from this would be awesome, but what to name it? The Canadian Cancer Cousins? (Too much, eh?)
